7th Grade Supply List 2023-2024
Homeroom and general middle school supplies
- headphones
- refillable water bottle - please bring to school daily to eliminate the wasteful use of cups
- black/blue ink pens
- pencils
- 2 packs of loose-leaf lined paper
- a pack of colored pencils
- 2 boxes of tissues
- 1 roll of paper towels
- either a bottle of hand sanitizer or a pack of clorox wipes
- hanging locker book organizer (not required, but some students find them helpful)
ELA
- one 1-inch binder
Social Studies & Spanish
- One 2-inch binder (to be shared by Social Studies and Spanish)
- Dividers
- An inexpensive Spanish language dictionary. These can sometimes be found at the dollar store or WalMart/Target.
- Paper to make book covers: stretchy fabric book covers won’t be allowed as they destroy book bindings. Brown paper grocery bags work great for this.
Math
- notebook - doesn’t have to be huge
- calculator TI 30 XII S -- Please put your name on it. Please.
Science
- notebook
- folder - (if your notebook has a folder, you don’t necessarily need an extra one)
- safety goggles - (optional) there are some in the lab, but you may feel more comfortable having your own
Religion
- single subject spiral notebook
FYI - Binders can be expensive. There are currently about 40 binders in the bookroom at SMI that were donated. If you don’t have one on the first day, we can definitely get you what you need.

Homeroom teacher:
Middle school students are fun to teach. At SMI we are able to build on the incredible foundation our students have received in the lower grades. Students are ready to move beyond facts and apply their knowledge in classroom discussions and in lab activities. The middle school science lab gets quite a bit of use - cabbage juice pH indicators, microscopes, liver enzymes, dissections, and much more. I am a strong proponent of integrating technology and hands-on lab work into the science curriculum. Science is about discovery, and every student should have the chance to experience it in the lab.

I have been at SMI since the fall of 2009 and currently teach 6th grade math, 7th grade accelerated math, 8th grade Algebra, 7th grade Physical Science, and 8th grade Living Environment. I have a BS in Biology from Union College and an MS in Curriculum and Instruction from the College of St. Rose. I hold NY State Certification in Biology grades 7-12. I am also an active member of CDAMS (Capital District Association of Math Supervisors) and Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) attending conferences and meetings throughout the year.My hobbies include road trips (that hopefully end at a beach), reading, and skiing.
