6th Grade Supply List 2023-2024

Homeroom and general middle school supplies

• headphones
• black/blue ink pens
• pencils
• refillable water bottle - please bring to school daily to eliminate the wasteful use of cups
• 2 packs of loose-leaf lined paper
• a pack of colored pencils
• 2 boxes of tissues
• 1 roll of paper towels
• either a bottle of hand sanitizer or a pack of clorox wipes
• hanging locker book organizer (not required, but some students find them helpful)

Math

• notebook (please not a binder) - not a fancy one
• calculator TI 30 XII S  --- Put your name on it.  I mean it.  Seriously.

ELA

• one 1-inch binder

Social Studies & Spanish

• One 2-inch binder (to be shared by Social Studies and Spanish)
• Dividers
• An inexpensive Spanish language dictionary.  These can sometimes be found at the dollar store or WalMart/Target.
• Paper to make book covers: stretchy fabric book covers won’t be allowed as they destroy book bindings. Brown paper grocery bags work great for this.

Science

• One subject notebook
• Folder 

Religion

• single subject spiral notebook

FYI - Binders can be expensive.  There are currently about 40 binders in the bookroom at SMI that were donated.  If you don’t have one on the first day, we can definitely get you what you need.

I started at SMI in the fall of 2022 and I am currently teaching 7th and 8th grade math, and 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English Language Arts.  I have a k-12 teaching license, and a Master's Degree in Education with a focus on Adolescent Executive Functioning.  In each of my classes my students are expected to organize their own notebooks to a classroom standard, and to maintain a calendar as they plan their work and work their plan.  I'm a big fan of the traditional educational model that we have at SMI.  I live with my wife and two pups and enjoy mountain biking, reading and writing in my (limited) spare time.
